This is sooooo frustrating. I have the necessary client, service, and protocol installed, have user names and accounts set up, am part of a workgroup, yet still no access to the network at home and at work. Sometimes I can see my comp. as part of the workgroup and other times no comps. at all. I've searched many resources in regards to this issue and found only the suggestions I've already tried over and over again. Any new info. much appreciated.

Put 2000 back on until SP2 comes out.

Yes Kobra, both systems at home are XP and I'm looking to file share, the systems at work however consist of 98se, ME, 2000pro, and my XPpro machine. When I first had it installed I had no issues at both work and home. File shared without a hitch. Then a gradual decline in recognized comps. on the network until now when it can hardly recognize itself.

I obtained the pre-release version of winXP SP2 and reinstalled NetBIOS, and poof! there I was, file-sharing . So all's good on the home-front. Now let's see how things go at work.

Sooooo...............I reformatted today and installed win2kPro. on my laptop, and now file-sharing is a breeze once again. I am at home now and shaking hands just fine with my XP Pro. machine. I guess I'll keep XP on my PC and 2K on my NB. Anyone else experiance something similar to this? Or is it just my sh*t-luck?
I was just starting to really get used to XP too. It certainly has some great features. But alas, 'ol Billy boy only got one OS right it seems: win2k pro.
Linux is looking really good right about now.

OK, I couldn't take it. I gave in. XP pro is once again running on my NB. SP2 included. So far everything's just fine at home and work. Let's see if I can maintain this friendship amongst machines. Perhaps it's not the Operating System, it's the operator. I will keep this subject up to date. Anyone have an idea as to why there was an issue in the first place besides the obvious fact that windows has a mind of it's own?
